God's Love For Us Of all the truths that the Bible reveals about God, His power, His holiness, His justice, His wisdom, His sovereignty, there is one that stands above all others as the defining characteristic of everything He does and everything He is. It is not His power, though His power is infinite and beyond comprehension. It is not His holiness, though His holiness is absolute and perfect. It is not even His justice, though His justice is completely reliable and without partiality. The defining characteristic of God, the one that makes sense of everything else about Him, is His love. 1 John 4:8 does not simply say that God loves.
