God's Healing Power

God's Healing Power

I believe that God is a healer who heals and restores physical, spiritual and mental well being through faith, prayer and divine intervention.

  • Faith: Faith is Trusting and believing in God and his promises, it's not just as a feeling but as a profound conviction and the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, as it is written in the book of Hebrews 11:1-3 that says, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old received divine approval. 3 By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear.
  • Prayer: Prayer is an act of communicating with God, surrounding a conversation of speaking and listening that includes praise, confession, thanksgiving, and asking for needs. It is an act of worship that promotes a deeper relationship with God and involves expressing humility, sincerity, and faith in His will and power.
  • Divine intervention: Divine intervention is, God's direct and active involvement in the world to carry out His will, frequently influencing natural events to direct, protect, or deliver people and nations.

In the Bible God is referred to as the God who heals in the book of Exodus 15:26 when God was speaking to the people of Israel, 26 saying, “If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord, your healer.” In the book of Jeremiah:30:17 it states that, For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, says the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!'

God Has Power To Heal.

I personally believe that There is nothing that God cannot heal, God's power is limitless it has no limit, God's power is endless and can do all things which means that nothing is difficult for God. What seems impossible to man is possible with God just as it is written in the book of Matthew 19:26 which states that, 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” In the book of Luke 1:37 it states that, 37 For with God nothing will be impossible. When we read the Bible we see God's power in so many ways, in ways that human beings cannot explain.

Here are some of the miracles that showcase God's healing power in the bible, healing miracles done by Jesus, healings done by prophets and healings done by apostles.

1. Healings done by Jesus.

  • Jesus healed a woman suffering from a hemorrhage in the book of Matthew 9:20-22 Which says, 20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment; 21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I shall be made well.” 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well.
  • Jesus healed a paralytic man in Matthew 9:1-8 and it says, And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. 2 And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” 3 And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming.” 4 But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts? 5 For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’? 6 But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins” he then said to the paralytic “Rise, take up your bed and go home.” 7 And he rose and went home. 8 When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
  • Jesus healed two blind men in Matthew 9:27-31 and it says, 27 And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them, “See that no one knows it.” 31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.
  • Jesus healed Peter's Mother-in-law in Matthew 8:14-15 which says, 14 And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever; 15 he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and served him.
  • Jesus raises a ruler's daughter from the dead in Matthew 9:18, 23-26 which says that, 18 While he was thus speaking to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died; but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” 23 And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players, and the crowd making a tumult, 24 he said, “Depart; for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. 25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went through all that district.

2. Healings done by apostles.

  • Apostle Paul healed so many people in Acts 19:11-12 which says, 11 And God did extraordinary miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and diseases left them and the evil spirits came out of them.
  • Peter healed a lame man in Acts 3:1-9 which says, Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at that gate of the temple which is called Beautiful to ask alms of those who entered the temple. 3 Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked for alms. 4 And Peter directed his gaze at him, with John, and said, “Look at us.” 5 And he fixed his attention upon them, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but I give you what I have; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up he stood and walked and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

3. Healings done by prophets.

  • Elijah raised a widow's son from the dead in 1 Kings 17:22 which says, 22 And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
  • Elisha healed Naaman of his leprosy in the book of 2 Kings 5:1-27.
  • Elisha's bones brings a dead man back to life in 2 Kings 13:21 which says, 21 And as a man was being buried, lo, a marauding band was seen and the man was cast into the grave of Elisha; and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet.

God's power is also seen when God healed King Hezekiah of Judah and added him 15 more years to leave after King Hezekiah prayed to God for healing when he was at the point of death, in the book of Isaiah 38:1-9 which states that, In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not recover.” 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, 3 and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in thy sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: 5 “Go and say to Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. 6 I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and defend this city. 7 “This is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he has promised: 8 Behold, I will make the shadow cast by the declining sun on the dial of Ahaz turn back ten steps.” So the sun turned back on the dial the ten steps by which it had declined. 9 A writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, after he had been sick and had recovered from his sickness:

Healing

In the bible Healing is a gift received through your faith in God and God's grace, healing is not something that you can pay for because it comes directly from God. When Jesus was sending his disciples he instructed them to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers and to cast out demons for they received without pay, they should give without pay, in the book of Matthew 10:8 it says, 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay. Healing is an outcome of God's power and compassion in the forgiveness of sins and a good relationship with God.

Here are examples of verses of Healing through faith and prayer:

  • Jeremiah 17:14 which says, 14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved; for thou art my praise.
  • 1 Peter 2:24 which says, 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
  • James 5:14-15 which says, 14 Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; 15 and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
  • Psalm 30:2 which says, 2 O Lord my God, I cried to thee for help, and thou hast healed me.
  • Exodus 15:26 which says, 26 saying, “If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians; for I am the Lord, your healer.”
  • Exodus 23:25 Which says, 25 You shall serve the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and your water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
  • Psalm 103:2-3 which says, 2 Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
  • Proverbs 4:20-22 which says, 20 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to him who finds them, and healing to all his flesh.
  • Jeremiah 30:17 which says, 17 For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, says the Lord, because they have called you an outcast: ‘It is Zion, for whom no one cares!’
  • Isaiah 53:5 which says, 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes we are healed.

Always remember that God heals and that only he can heal you from any kind of illness that you might be suffering from, don't be shy to call on God's name for healing for only he is able to do all things and only he is our healer and our provider. Matthew 6:33 it says that, 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Always seek God for all your needs for he is a good and a wonderful God and he always provides.

Reflection:

Healing of the Heart and Body: While we often pray for physical healing, we must remember that God is also the "Physician of the Soul." He heals broken hearts, restores relationships, and mends spirits that have been crushed by life. Whether the healing is instant or a journey over time, God is with you in every moment of the process.

FAQ:

Why doesn't healing happen immediately every time? We may not always understand God’s timing, but we can trust His heart. Sometimes the "healing journey" is where we learn the most about His presence and strength.

Key Takeaways:

  • The Great Physician: God cares about every part of us our physical bodies, our minds, and our broken hearts.
  • Healing in His Presence: Sometimes healing is an instant miracle, and sometimes it is a process of walking closely with Him.
  • Restoration: God doesn't just fix what is broken; He restores us and makes us new.

A Short Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray for healing for anyone reading this today. Whether they need physical, emotional, or spiritual healing, I ask that Your comforting hand would be upon them. Restore their strength and give them peace. Amen.
