The key Aspects of Christian Living
what are the key aspects of Christian living? Here are a few:
- Love and obedience: Loving God and being obedient to His commands is the foundation of Christian living. In the book of John 14:15 it says, 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 1 John 5:3 it says, 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
- Having faith and trusting in God: Trusting in God's goodness, sovereignty, and promises is necessary to living a life that honors Him. In the book of Proverbs 3:5-6 it says, 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Hebrews 11:1-6 it says, Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the men of old received divine approval. 3 By faith we understand that the world was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made out of things which do not appear. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he received approval as righteous, God bearing witness by accepting his gifts; he died, but through his faith he is still speaking. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was attested as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
- Humility and service: Following Jesus' example, we should live with humility and serve others, putting their needs before our own. In the book of Philippians 2:3-8 it says, 3 Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Matthew 20:26-28 it says, 26 It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; 28 even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
- Praying and worshiping God: Developing a deep relationship with God through praying and worship is very important to Christian living. In the book of 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it says, 17 pray constantly, Hebrews 13:15 it says, 15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
- Community and fellowship: We're meant to live in community with other believers, encouraging and supporting one another. In the book of Hebrews 10:24-25 it says, 24 and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Acts 2:42-47 it says, 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Life among the Believers 43 And fear came upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Practical Steps to Living for Christ
how can we practically live for Christ? Here are a few steps:
- By spending time with God: Prioritize your time with God by reading the bible, praying, and worshiping Him. In the book of Psalm 119:105 it says, 105 Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Luke 5:16 it says, 16 But he withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.
- By following Jesus' teachings: Apply Jesus' teachings to your life, allowing His words to shape your thoughts and your actions. In the book of John 13:34-35 it says, 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” James 1:22-25 it says, 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who observes his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer that forgets but a doer that acts, he shall be blessed in his doing.
- By serving others: Serve others by putting their needs before your own. In the book of Matthew 25:31-46 it says, 31 “When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. 34 Then the King will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? 38 And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? 39 And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’ 46 And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Galatians 5:13-14 it says, 13 For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants of one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
- By joining a community: Connect with other believers by joining a church or a small group to encourage and support one another.
Christian living according to the Bible.
In the book of Ephesians 4:17-32 it says,
The Old Life and the New
17 Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds; 18 they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart; 19 they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness. 20 You did not so learn Christ! 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus. 22 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Rules for the New Life
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need. 29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice, 32 and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
As we conclude our reflection on Christian living, we're reminded that it's a journey, not a destination. Living for Christ is a daily choice to surrender to His lordship, trust in His goodness, and follow His teachings. May we be encouraged to take one step at a time, trusting in God's power and guidance. May our lives reflect God's love and character to the world around us, and may we be a beacon of hope in a world that needs Him. May God bless you as you continue to live for Christ.
Reflection:
Being a Christian isn't just something I do on Sundays; it’s a 24/7 lifestyle. It affects how I work, how I spend my money, and how I speak to my family. To me, Christian living means trying to reflect the light of Jesus in the "boring" or "normal" moments of life, knowing that God is watching and cheering us on.
FAQ: Is Christian living about following a list of rules?
A: No, it’s about a relationship. When you love someone, you naturally want to do things that please them. Christian living is the natural result of loving God and wanting to honor Him.
Key Takeaways:
- Being a Light: We are called to be "salt and light" in a world that often feels dark and tasteless.
- Transformation: We should look different from the world in how we handle anger, worry, and forgiveness.
- Purpose: Every day is an opportunity to represent Christ to someone who might not know Him yet.
A Short Prayer
Lord, help me to live a life that is worthy of the calling I have received. Let my light shine today so that others see my good works and give glory to You in heaven. Amen.
